With the explosion of social media, teachers and students alike now have the ability to not only access information, but engage with experts instantaneously and authentically and, in the process, express their own ideas to a global audience.
This has the potential to transform learning within the classroom along with a teacher’s professional development. The focus here will be on understanding, analyzing, and assessing the tools as teachers work on building their own personal learning networks in order to plan collaboratively on a unit or project that integrates social media. |
5 Objectives:
- Assess the possibilities and limitations of at least five social media tools for student and teacher use, including Twitter, Edmodo, Pinterest, Skype, and YouTube
- Create a personal learning network in order to “own” your professional development.
- Develop an ethical framework for digital citizenship.
- Use social media to collaborate on a project or unit plan that integrates social media with project-based learning, student inquiry, and Common Core State Standards
- Use social media as a means for reflection, planning, and advocacy.
